Bromsgrove Sporting extended their unbeaten run to seven games as Bishop’s Stortford lost 0-2 at the RDA Stadium in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division on Tuesday night. The Blues are one point outside the relegation zone in 17th, while the visitors climbed to 15th.

 

Andrew Bennett’s right footed strike curled away from goal early on, before Luke Rowe saw his low shot from 20 yards deflected wide for a left wing corner. Elliot Krasniqi parried the corner kick but only unto the path of Ashley Carter, who headed into the corner of the net, with Cole Dasilva unable to keep the ball out near the post. A deep free kick was headed clear by the Bromsgrove defence, with Brad Russell shooting first time and forcing Charles Price into a fine diving save to keep the ball out of the top left corner. Ryan Charles – making his 200th appearance for Stortford – dribbled towards the middle from the right wing but his left footed shot curled wide. Billy Shaw’s left wing cross was cleared by Luke Warner-Eley with Theo Robinson waiting in the middle to finish, before Dasilva crossed from a left wing free kick that would have been on target, and Price saved before Nahum Melvin-Lambert could head the ball in. From the counter attack, James Meddows crossed from the left but couldn’t find a teammate. Jake Thompson headed wide from a cross following a wide free kick by Dasilva, and Jaden Ogwuazor was on hand to block Rowe’s effort from outside the box. Krasniqi made a low save with his feet to deny Robinson’s shot from the right side of the box. Stortford captain Thompson thought he had found an equaliser when the ball ended up in the net from Dasilva’s inswinging corner, but referee Craig Barnett saw a foul on Price as he came to catch the ball. Late in the first half, Jack Newell and Carter Lycett both saw long range strikes miss the target as the visitors failed to increase their lead.

Shaw fired wide from the left side of the box, before Thompson was penalised for a foul once more while challenging for a header. Debutant Louis Walsh came off the bench and picked out Russell with a great defence splitting pass into the middle of the box, the midfielder turned and shot towards the bottom left corner with the outside of his right foot, but Price got a fingertip to the ball and it rebounded off the base of the post. Charles’ looping header from Dasilva’s cross went narrowly wide of the goal, before Dasilva fired inches over the bar from 25 yards after a one-two with Russell. The Worcestershire side soaked up the pressure from the Blues, and doubled their lead seven minutes from time, with Meddows curling a left footed shot into the right side netting from 20 yards. Deep into injury time, Isa Rotimi failed to meet a header from Charles’ cross from the left wing.
