Connor Bartle scored in the third minute of added on time as Stamford beat Bishop’s Stortford 1-0 on Saturday, moving the hosts into the last Play-Off spot in the Southern League Premier Central Division, while Stortford were dragged back into the relegation fight, as Bromsgrove Sporting, Barwell and AFC Sudbury all won, while Redditch United and St Ives Town picked up draws. Steve Castle’s side sit four points outside the relegation zone with four games to go

Tobias Liversedge went close with a header from a left wing cross but saw his effort come back off the post, and Elliot Krasniqi was on hand to claim the rebound. Krasniqi kept out George Hobbins’ low strike with a dive low to his right before Elliott Durrell fired over the bar from 25 yards. The Blues struggled to create any clear-cut chances in the first half, but kept the Daniels’ corner kicks and long throws at bay.

Ryan Charles dribbled into the box off the right wing and fired a low shot, but team-mate Nahum Melvin-Lambert couldn’t get out of the way and blocked the strike, and Luka Chalwell’s shot on the rebound was saved. Cole Dasilva’s deep free kick was flicked on at the near post by Chalwell, Mark Haines was ready to volley in at the far post but Thomas Jackson saved the shot from close range. Dasilva took a free kick short to Rashawn Scott on the left wing, who crossed to captain Jake Thompson but his header cannoned off the crossbar and away from danger. Dasilva’s free kick in a central position went wide of the target, before Charles and Presley Evans forced Jackson into a pair of great saves from inside the box from Scott’s left wing cross. Thompson made a superb sliding block to deny Liversedge when he picked up the ball in space and dribbled into the box, with the Stortford skipper blocking the shot. Tendai Chitiza’s overhead kick went wide from a long throw off the left side, before George Hobbins’ right wing cross was volleyed home by substitute Bartle from close range in injury-time to snatch the three points.
