Two second half goals at Bishop’s Stortford saw Kettering Town briefly top the table in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central Division, while defeat dragged the Blues further into the relegation battle, just one point outside of the drop zone with three games to go. Nile Ranger and Terrell Pennant scored before Bedford Town returned to the top of the league  with a late winner.

Three of the four relegation spots are confirmed – Biggleswade Town, Hitchin Town & Lowestoft Town (the latter two confirmed today) – while St Ives Town and AFC Sudbury won and there were draws for Redditch United and Barwell.

Luca Miller’s speculative effort from range was easily saved by Elliot Krasniqi in the first minute, before Fabio Virciglio slud the ball through to Ryan Charles to his right, he cut onto his left foot but the shot from outside the box was saved. Alex Gudger headed over the bar from the middle of the box from a corner, and Ranger headed wide from Devon Kelly-Evans chipped cross from the right. Krasniqi saved Gudger’s next header from a corner, he pushed the ball away after the defender had peeled away to the back post to meet the ball. Scott dribbled from box to box but his right footed effort went straight to Daniel Jezeph who saved. Jamaer Loza scuffed a shot in the turn and didn’t trouble Krasniqi, before firing wide from 15 yards with a powerful effort. His best chance came towards the end of the half, when he dribbled away from Jake Thompson and forced Krasniqi to save with his legs with a shot from a tight angle. Scott’s effort deflected off a defender’s legs into the path of Nahum Melvin-Lambert, but his shot was smothered by Jezeph in first half injury time.

Zack Howell whipped a cross in from the right, it was headed clear to Luka Chalwell on the edge of the box, but his shot was blocked. Mark Haines fouled Loza and he dribbled into the right side of the box and referee Samuel Clayton pointed to the spot, with Ranger able to send Krasniqi the wrong way and pick out the top right corner. Storer’s free kick went under the jumping wall but also wide of the left post, before Tyree Wilson’s strike was saved by Krasniqi. Substitute Pennant sealed the win when he received a through ball into the right side of the box and slotted low across goal into the bottom left corner.
