The first outing of pre-season ended in heavy defeat for Bishop’s Stortford losing 1-8 at Woodside Park to Stevenage, with trialists on display for both teams. After the Blues had held firm defensively for the first half-hour 16-year-old Ryan Doherty opened the scoring for the visitors with a low strike from long range into the bottom left corner. Harvey White’s right wing corner after the break allowed Boro to double their lead with Jordan Roberts heading home from close range. Phoenix Patterson cut in off the left wing and passed to a trialist striker, who controlled the ball well and finished via a deflection for 0-3. Jamie Reid beat the offside trap with a run in the left channel, his initial shot was saved but #23 finished calmly over the Stortford trialist goalkeeper for his second. Patterson cut in off the wing, worked some space and finished low across goal from outside the box. Stortford did find a consolation with trialist #22 latching onto a long ball and dribbling round the onrushing goalkeeper to score into the empty net. A long diagonal ball was nodded down by Reid into the path of Roberts who half-volleyed into the bottom left corner from 20 yards. Trialist #23 completed his hat-trick with a close range tap-in from Patterson’s cut back, before PAtterson dribbled through the defence and netted his second in the 90th minute.
