Jack Smith and Saleem Akanbi scored as Bishop’s Stortford finished pre-season with back-to-back wins and clean sheets with a 2-0 win over an Aveley side featuring former Blues Joe Wright, Marvel Ekpiteta, Ollie Peters, Ryan Henshaw, Joe Boachie, Anthony Church and Adam Bailey-Dennis. The Millers, who Steve Castle named as his favourites for the Pitching In Isthmian League Premier Division title in his post match interview, were a goal down early when Smith found the net inside 10 minutes. Obi Onyeagwara had picked out Nahum Melvin-Lambert with his back to goal, who unselfishly passed into space on the left side of the box where Smith arrived to fire into the bottom left corner. Akanbi found some space and beat the offside trap to pick up the ball from a cross on the left wing, he chipped the onrushing Wright with a shot from the right side of the box into the left side netting.
