Alvechurch meted out revenge for Bishop’s Stortford’s opening day victory at the RDA Stadium with a 1-0 in the reverse fixture on Tuesday night. Bradley Stretton scored the only goal in the match rearranged from the first weekend in January. It leaves the Blues without a win away from home in 2025, and only one victory in six matches overall.
Fabio Virciglio picked up an early booking for a shirt pull as the Church tried to counter-attack, but it wasn’t until the 27th minute when either side had a big chance to take the lead. Rashawn Scott cut in off the left wing and laid the ball off to Olu Oluwatimilehin on the edge of the box, but his shot was deflected before Ronnie Hollingshead made the save. Stretton’s free kick took a deflection off the wall, and Elliot Krasniqi kept it out with a full stretch dive away to his left. Charlie Castle raced onto a through ball from Oluwatimilehin, but his low shot was saved by Hollingshead. Daniel Sweeney was next to go close from a free kick, his right footed effort was curled around the wall but Krasniqi saved in first half injury time.

Scott dribbled into the middle from the left wing, allowing space for substitute Presley Evans on the overlap, but his shot was high and wide of the goal. Stretton broke the deadlock with a deflected shot from the right side of the box, aiming for the bottom left corner, the shot wrong-footed Krasniqi after Luke Warner-Eley’s intervention and the ball flew in at the near post. Ammar Dyer missed the target with a low shot from the right side of the box, before Evans’ shot was blocked and cleared as far as Erin Amu on the edge of the box. His miscued effort fell into Jaden Ogwuazor’s path but he was offside before he could finish.
