Three goals in nine second half minutes set Barwell on the road to a 4-1 victory against Bishop’s Stortford, despite Luka Chalwell’s instant equaliser to going a goal behind. It leaves the Blues two places and six points outside the relegation zone in 17th, in a group of four teams on 40 points with nine games to go in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central Division.

Olu Oluwatimilehin’s wayward pass was intercepted by Ash Chambers, he played a through ball to the right for Kane Richards but his low effort came off the post. Brady Hickey also saw a shot cannon off the woodwork from the right side of the box, before Jaden Ogwuazor cleared off the line. Chalwell won the ball with a high press from the left back and dribbled into the box, his low shot was saved by Will Highland. Richards made a diagonal run from left to right and received the ball from Victor Nirennold’s lofted pass, but Elliot Krasniqi saved his low cut back from a tight angle. Cole Dasilva’s miscued clearance was picked up by Lathaniel Rowe-Turner on the edge of the box who passed to Hickey but he shot wide. Chambers fired over the bar from a central position in the box, before Rashawn Scott beat the right back for pace and crossed to Chalwell at the far post, but he couldn’t hit the target with his header. Dasilva’s deep free kick was chested down by Jake Thompson to Chalwell, but he volleyed over the bar.

Chalwell received the ball with his back to goal while holding off the defender, he turned and got his shot away but it was deflected wide. Chambers broke the deadlock for the hosts, poking in from close range after Krasniqi had saved a low shot. But Stortford were level just two minutes later, when Dasilva fizzed a ball into the feet of Nahum Melvin-Lambert, he laid the ball off to Chalwell who fired into the left side netting to equalise. Just as quickly as they had lost their lead, Barwell restored it again as the Blues failed to clear a goalmouth scramble and Hickey headed home from close range. Ethan Hill finished off a fine passing move for 3-1 in the 70th minute, a sucker punch for the Blues who found themselves two goals down after a swift reply to equalise. Presley Evans added impetus and attacking threat when he came on, he dribbled off the right wing into the centre and fed Melvin-Lambert with a through ball, but his strike was saved by Highland. Thompson fouled Richards in the box and referee Martin Beard did not hesitate in pointing to the spot. Although the penalty kick was saved, Hickey reacted quickest after he was thwarted to convert the rebound.
