Cole Dasilva’s goal direct from a corner was enough for Bishop’s Stortford to secure three points at home against Barwell in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central Division on Saturday. The Blues picked up a first clean sheet in 15 matches in the 1-0 win, and have gained 10 points from the last 12 available.

 

Rashawn Scott started the game brightly, he dribbled in the wing and crossed in from the left, but it was too high for James Collins in the box. Scott ran onto Dasilva’s diagonal out to the left wing, he drove into the box but the near post shot went high and wide from a tight angle. Deen Masters’ low shot from range bounced just as it reached goalkeeper Elliot Krasniqi but he made a confident save. Luke Warner-Eley won the ball high up following a half-cleared cross from the right, his strike drifted wide, but Oli Oluwatimilehin was much closer, always rising from 30 and narrowly missed the top right corner. Jake Thompson denied Tyrell Skeen-Hamilton with a great last ditch block in the box, before Master curled a free kick over the bar from a central position.

Scott dribbled through the Barwell defence on the left side of the box from Ryan Charles’ through ball, but William Highland rushed out to meet him to make the save. Dasilva’s wicked inswinger deceived the goalkeeper who tried to catch the ball, but it was already over the line before he reacted, and ended up in the back of the net alongside the ball. Highland made a great low save to tip the ball up and over the bar from Charles’ turn and shot, before Mark Haines blocked Riley Money’s goalbound volley from a left wing cross. Haines – who made his 150th Blues appearance recently – denied substitute Moloney once more with a sliding block from his low shot from the edge of the box. Brad Russell won the ball high up off the Leicestershire outfit’s defence, he played a one-two with Collins but he rushed the shot and fired straight at Highland. Brady Hickey hit a long range strike that was deflected wide as it came off Oluwatimilehin and grazed the outside of the post, the corner came to nothing, before Presley Evans broke on the left wing but his low shot was deflected for a corner. Leroy Lita headed over the bar from inside the six yard box from a corner for Barwell, before Anthony Church and Thompson made great goal line blocks in injury time, following a scramble in the box from a corner. There was time for one more chance for the Blues to seal the win, as Russell, dribbling along the 18 yard line, turned and shot across goal, only denied by a stunning fingertip save.

The Blues travel to Stratford Town on Saturday 30 November, and host Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday 7 December.
