Charlie Johnson scored his first Bishop’s Stortford goal before Harry Forde sealed a 3-1 win for the Blues at home against Barwell on Saturday. Steve Castle’s side are on a run of only one defeat in the last six games and sit 13th in the Pitching in Southern League Premier Central Division with at least two games in hand on the six teams above.

 

Debutant Revin Domi had an early chance with a low curling shot from 20 yards, his right footed effort was saved by Finn Osborn, before Tyrell Waite took the ball on his chest from a left wing cross, he swivelled and volleyed at goal but Adam Hayton tipped the ball onto the post before stand-in captain Mark Haines cleared. Leon Davies crossed from the left and Brad Russell met it with a header that came off the base of the right hand post, only to be diverted into his own net by the unfortunate Ethan Hill. Fabio Virciglio chased a loose ball near the near touchline and outmuscled Rashaan Frances before firing a low cross towards the near post, where Makise Evans – also making his Stortford debut – poked at goal but Osborn kept it out. Waite controlled a left wing cross but a loose touch allowed Hayton to claim the ball before the forward could shoot. In first half injury time, Cole Dasilva curled a free kick over the bar but wide of the left post from a central position.

Barwell equalised early in the second half, with Jevin Seaton seeing his long range strike deflected into the right side of the net past a stranded Hayton, before Hayton was on hand to parry a header from Zayn Hakeem at the far post from a right wing cross. Johnson fired in from close range from a brilliantly delivered free kick from the right side on the hour mark to restore the lead before substitute Forde thought he had a quick fire third when he fired in a rebound, but the flag had gone up against Evans from Virciglio’s through ball. Evans fired a low shot from 25 yards towards the bottom left corner but Osborn got down well to his right to keep it out. With 10 minutes to go, Forde fired in a sidefoot volley from Dasilva’s cross from the right to make sure of the three points.
