Bromsgrove Sporting 2-3 Bishop’s Stortford Match Report

26/4/25

Pitching In Southern League Premier Central Division

Hamish Arnold

Rashawn Scott scored the decisive goal as Bishop’s Stortford won 2-3 away at 10-player Bromsgrove Sporting to secure Non-League Step Three survival on Saturday, to finish 15th in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central Division. The Blues went into the final day knowing a win would keep them safe, but would also avoid the drop if either Redditch United or Barwell lost. Redditch United won 4-0 against Hitchin Town but it was Barwell who completed the relegation quartet as they lost 1-7 at home against Spalding United.

Harry Forde had given the Blues the lead inside two minutes, he ghosted in at the back post to finish Cole Dasilva’s cross into the bottom left corner. Forde’s through ball to Nahum Melvin-Lambert was deflected into the path of Scott on the left wing, he dribbled into the box but saw his near post shot saved by Charles Price. Ogwuazor picked out Scott with a through ball down the left, his shot was parried to Ryan Charles who tried to work some space for a shot but instead laid the ball off to Dasailva, but his shot went wide from the right side of the box. Theo Robinson went through on goal for the hosts, with Elliot Krasniqi closing down the shot and Mark Haines headed clear. Dasilva caught the Rouslers’ defence napping with a quick free kick down the left to Scott, he fizzed a low shot across the box but Price saved. James Meddows levelled the game with a half volley from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner. After his earlier warning shot, Robinson gave Bromsgrove the lead on the stroke of half-time, when Ashley Carter’s long ball was nodded down in the box and Robinson finished from close range at the far post.

HT 2-1

A right wing free kick was glanced wide for the hosts by Robinson, who had found himself free in the box, but Luka Chalwell made it 2-2 in the 64th minute when he latched onto Ryan Charles’ lofted pass to chip over the onrushing Price from the edge of the box. Price saved Charles’ low shot from the edge of the box, before a loose ball fell to Scott, he turned away from the defender and fired in from a tight angle left-footed. Substitute Jack Newall couldn’t reach the ball at full stretch to convert Robinson’s off target shot in the six-yard box. Rouslers’ skipper Reece King was shown red in second half injury time for a high tackle on Dasilva, before full time brought jubilant celebrations from the travelling support.
