Marley St Louis scored on his debut for Bishop’s Stortford as the Blues came from a goal down to win 1-2 away at Kings Langley in the Hertfordshire Senior Cup First Round on Tuesday night. Steve Castle made six changes from the XI that started Saturday’s away defeat to Worcester City, and the five substitutes had only one first team appearance for Stortford between them before the match.
Harry Forde crossed from the left towards Nahum Melvin-Lambert but he couldn’t get his header on target, and despite making the brighter start, the Blues found themselves behind when Matt Bateman latched onto Edu Toniy-Pendred’s flick on and fired into the right side netting from 15 yards. Cole Dasilva crossed from the right for Melvin-Lambert to play a cushioned header for St Louis, but the winger couldn’t convert from close range. George Iron fired wide after dribbling from midfield for the host, and Obi Onyeagwara struck the crossbar with a powerful effort after drifting in off the left wing, the rebound was headed goalwards by Melvin-Lambert but goalkeeper Connor Coulson managed to keep it out of the net. Dasilva crossed from the left but Melvin-Lambert headed wide, and Onyeagwara’s cut back from the bye-line saw Declan Phillips and Melvin-Lambert have shots blocked, before Fabio Virciglio saw his effort deflected wide in first half injury time.

Five minutes into the second half, St Louis netted his debut goal when he nodded home a loopy header from Dasilva’s left wing cross. Taking the momentum from the goal, Stortford grew in confidence and produced numerous chances to take the lead. Onyeagwara dribbled into the box and his cut back was picked up by Melvin-Lambert but with no shooting angle he laid the ball off to Virciglio, whose shot was blocked, and Onyeagwara saw his long range strike parried for a corner. The corner was defended but only as far as Virciglio on the edge of the box, he passed to Onyeagwara on the left, he cut inside onto his right foot and found the top left corner with a powerful strike from long range. Rehan Field was required to clear the ball off the line after a goalmouth scramble from a Kings Langley corner, before debutant Alfie Jessey fired narrowly over the bar from the right side of the box for the Blues. Toby Atkins made a fine low save to deny Luke Beckwith from close range, and Melvin-Lambert’s header missed the target from a deep free kick late on.
