Blues fans will see the return of a familiar face at the start of the campaign, with Blues Director of Football and former Isthmian Premier winning manager Steve Smith returning to the dugout. 

Smith is set to deputise for manager Steve Castle at the beginning of the league season whilst the Blues gaffer is recovering from a hip operation. 

Speaking on the decision, Castle said: “As many supporters will already know I am due to have another hip operation at the start of August, which likely means missing the first 3 or 4 league games under Doctors orders.  

In Steve Smith we have a very experienced and capable pair of hands having managed Stortford over 250 times, so it’s an ideal solution. 

We’ll both be in constant touch whilst I’m not able to be at the ground and I’ll be raring to go again as soon as I’m given the green light!”.
