Isuzu FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round

Hamish Arnold

Four goals in the last half an hour saw Bishop’s Stortford safely through to the First Round of the Isuzu FA Trophy, after beating Cray Wanderers 4-0 at Woodside Park in the Third Qualifying Round on Saturday. Nahum Melvin-Lambert scored with his first touch off the bench before adding a second late on, with Mark Haines and Saleem Akanbi also on the scoresheet. The draw for the First Round takes place on Monday.

Ashley Nzala went close for the hosts early on, he dribbled past Jake Thompson into the box and shot from close range, but Thompson recovered to block, before Nzala dribbled through again but Adam Hayton saved his low effort. Akanbi’s through ball picked out Fabio Virciglio on the right side of the box, but Harry Seaden made a low save to stop the ball from creeping in at the near post and Alex Hernandez curled a free kick around the wall, it was parried by Hayton and Leon Davies cleared.

HT 0-0

Lateef Adaja dribbled into the box and his low left footed shot was tipped around the post for a Wands corner, but it was headed clear by Cole Dasilva. The Stortford full back then floated in a corner from the right for Haines to volley in from close range, and his defensive partner Thompson saw his far post header from a subsequent corner saved by Seaden. Davies crossed for Melvin-Lambert in the middle, the substitute was unmarked near the penalty spot and powered home a header with 15 minutes to go in the match. Visitors’ substitute Chris Dickson went close with a header from a right wing cross but it glanced off the top of the crossbar. Freddie Taylor picked up the ball after a corner had been cleared, but his shot went over the bar. Akanbi chased down Scott Kashket’s long ball, and when Remi Sutton left his header short, the striker picked it up and poked the ball past Seaden, who had rushed out to the edge of the box, into the bottom left corner. Melvin-Lambert added his second and the Blues’ fourth when Kashket’s long throw was intercepted by a defender, but Melvin-Lambert intercepted the ball and fired home into the roof of the net.
