Pitching In Southern League Premier Central Division
Hamish Arnold
Adam Hayton and Bishop’s Stortford kept a second consecutive clean sheet for the first time since November with a goalless draw away at Redditch United on Saturday. The Blues missed a chance to go within four points of the Play-Off positions, but sit 11th in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division table, six points outside the top five. Stortford are 11 points above the relegation zone with Stourbridge leapfrogging Alvechurch into 18th, also with a goalless draw away from home.
The Reds dominated the first half with Hayton making some stunning saves to keep Steve Castle’s men in the match. Liam Loughlan struck the crossbar with a curling effort from outside the box, the rebound from Alex Cameron was also fired against the woodwork before the skipper saw his header clawed away by Hayton. Jack Loughran received a through ball from the left side into the box, his first time effort was tipped over the bar by Hayton, before Jakes Thompson blocked Aram Soleman’s low shot. Late on in the half, Hayton was once again required to preserve his clean sheet, pushing Loughlan’s shot from the right side of the box away from the near post. As with a number of corner efforts from the hosts, they failed to fashion an effort on goal, mostly going too high and deep of the crowd assembled in the middle of the box.
HT 0-0
After the break the Blues grew into the contest, and threatened to nick a late winner as the West Midlands side tired. Fabio Virciglio won the ball in midfield and picked out substitute Victor Aiye on the right, he laid the ball off to Cole Dasilva who crossed to Saleem Akanbi but his glancing header went wide. Virciglio found Aiye on the wing from the next attack, his low shot was deflected off a defender and claimed by Tyrese Washington low to his right. Loughran dribbled into the box but Hayton closed him down the angle and smothered the ball. Hayton made a great double save before Brad Russell dribbled into the box at the other end but was tackled by Morgan Owen before he could shoot.
