Pitching In Southern League Premier Central Division

Tyrone Baker scored on his return from international duty but Redditch United came from behind to defeat Bishop’s Stortford 3-1 at the Valley Stadium on Saturday. After making his debut and scoring for Montserrat in the recent break, Baker opened the scoring for the Blues before Szhem Whyte-Hall, William Fielding and Harrison Hazard scored to seal three points, the hosts climb to 10th while the Blues drop to 15th in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Table.
Jack Smith’s deep free kick was nodded across goal from the left side of the box by Jake Thompson but Frank Norris was offside in the middle as he jumped to head the ball home, goalkeeper Rory Brown punched the ball clear. Aaron Greene spotted Brown off his line and went for a long range lob from near the touch line, the ball landed on the roof of the net and behind for a goal kick. From a right wing cross, Whyte-Hall received the ball with his back to goal, turned and shot but Thompson made a vital block before Alfie Wellens slid a through ball to Baker on the right side of the box but the shot was parried behind for a corner, which was defended. After winning the ball in midfield, the Blues countered with Baker running on the left from halfway, he cut in onto his right foot and shot into the bottom left corner with Brown rooted to the spot to givr Stortford the lead inside 25 minutes. Smith’s free kick from the right was won in the air by Thompson but his header ricocheted off the base of the right post and away from danger, before Aram Soleman saw his free kick from the left wing deflected off Brad Russell in the wall towards goal, with Calum Barnes required to tip the ball over the crossbar for a Redditch United corner. Whyte-Hall found himself free and in space as he arrived at the far post to poke in the equaliser from close range from the right wing corner. Thompson nodded the ball down from a deep free kick by Smith into Harry Titchmarsh’s path but he volleyed off target and from the next attack Norris stretched to reach Titchmarsh’s cross but couldn’t get the shot on target. Smith cannoned a free kick off the crossbar near the top left corner from a central position, before Stanley Straw’s header from a left wing corner was saved at close range by Barnes.
HT 1-1
Norris won the ball high up and dribbled through on goal, his shot was saved by Brown’s legs and the ricochet went past Russell before he could fire in on the rebound. Whyte-Hall glanced a header wide from a left wing cross, and Thompson cleared the ball off the line from Whyte-Hall’s header from the next cross. A Stortford counter attack ended with Wellens curling a shot narrowly wide from the edge of the box, before the Worcestershire side took the lead for the first time, when Fielding glanced a header beyond Barnes from a right wing corner. Wellens had a great chance to equalise soon after, when Russell picked out Baker on the left wing, he cut the ball back to near the penalty spot but Wellens ford straight down the middle and saw the ball saved by Brown. Just a minute after that missed opportunity for the Blues, Redditch increased the lead when a low cross from the right was turned in at the far post by Hazard, and Shambrook dragged a low shot wide in injury time.
