A Hertfordshire derby of few chances ended goalless at Garden Walk as Bishop’s Stortford held Royston Town to a 0-0 draw in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central Division on Saturday. It is the first time the Blues have picked up consecutive draws since March 2022, but in the process Stortford hit the milestone of 1000 points at Non-League Step Three (since the formation of the 1979-80 Alliance Premier League, which became the National League).

Luka Chalwell and Fabio Virciglio combined down the left wing, with Rashawn Scott dribbling into the box from the left wing, but his low right footed shot was saved by Jamie Head at the near post. Harrison Rookard met a volley first-time from a left wing cross , but Jaden Ogwuazor made a close range block and the ball looped over the crossbar for a corner. The corner kick from the right wasn’t cleared and a shot from the left side of the shot from Edward Asafu-Adjaye was blocked for a corner on the left. The next corner kick was knocked down into the path of skipper Aaron Greene, whose shot was blocked by his opposite number Jake Thompson at the near post. Lenny Brown’s low shot from the left side of the box was saved by Head.

A low right wing cross for the Crows was diverted over the bar by Ogwuazor, before Kian Harness – who started the season with the Blues – saw his low shot from the left side of the box well saved by Elliot Krasniqi. The game became attritional with the introduction of substitutes, before second half injury time saw the two best chances for the visitors, with Cole Dasilva curling a left footed shot narrowly wide from the right wide of the box, a shot which saw Head scrambling across his goal. After a superb defensive performance, Thompson could have found the winner from a deep cross from the right, Chalwell flicked the ball on into the captain’s path in space, eight yards from goal but he miscued wide of the bottom left corner.
