Ben Fowkes scored four goals as Bishop’s Stortford were beaten 5-0 away against Spalding United in pre-season on Saturday. Ex-Blues forward Jack Roberts scored the other goal, with all five coming in the first half.

The hosts – who were Play-Off winners in last season’s Pitching In Southern League Premier Central Division – took the lead inside two minutes with Fowkes’ low shot from a right wing pass, before a corner was headed down for Fowkes to poke home from close range just seven minutes later. Roberts headed home from close range after a powerful strike had ricocheted off the crossbar into his path. Stortford were caught in possession by the Tulips with Fowkes completing his hat-trick with a tap-in. The fifth goal came after a quick counter-attack after a Blues corner kick was cleared, with Fowkes finding the empty net from close range via a cutback.
