Three second half goals secured a first away win for Bishop’s Stortford since January, defeating Stamford 0-3 on Saturday. Frank Norris scored on and Jackson Chukwu-Nsofor bagged a brace as the Blues climbed to 10th place, two points off the Play-Off positions in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central Division table, while the Daniels remain pointless and rooted to the bottom spot.
After a cagey opening to the match, Brad Russell had the first sight of goal for either team after a quarter of an hour, receiving a through ball and dribbling clear of the defender but his shot was parried by goalkeeper James Goff who had rushed out to close down the angle. From a quick throw-in, the home captain made a run from midfield and was found with a lofted pass but he fired wide from a central position. Jack Smith’s deep free kick was won in the air by Charlie Johnson at the far post, Tyrone Baker volleyed first time but high over the bar. Theo Hudson played a cut back from the right to Bayly, but Johnson blocked his shot for a corner, from which Calum Barnes had to react quickly to keep the ball out after a deflection off Oliver Reeve, with Russell clearing the ball off the goal line. Norris’ shot was deflected wide for a corner after a smart turn from receiving the ball with his back to goal, the corner kick wasn’t dealt with and Jake Thompson had a shooting chance but blocked over the bar in a crowded six yard box. Barnes saved Hudson’s low shot from outside the box and Norris held up the ball on the left wing and passed to Smith, he was crowded out but picked out Alfie Wellens on the edge of the box, but his left footed effort curled marginally wide of the left post.

Baker beat the full back with a run down the left wing and his low cross was put behind for a corner, which troubled the defence but Goff punched the ball clear. Kieran Wallace fouled Smith as he dribbled into the box and referee Matthew Friend had no hesitation in pointing to the spot for a penalty kick. Goff kept out Baker’s spot kick with a dive low to his right, but he could only parry the ball to the arriving Norris who fired in from close range. After scoring the first, Norris turned provider for the second, with a low cross from the right for substitute Chukwu-Nsofor to side-foot the ball in from close range just three minutes after entering the match. Russell couldn’t keep the ball down from a similar position when Smith crossed to him from the right wing, with the shot looping over the bar, and Bayly found himself in space with Barnes in no man’s land at the other end but his attempted lob drifted wide of the goal. Smith curled a long range free kick over the bar before the third goal came in second half injury time. The Lincolnshire outfit pushed high to try and reduce the deficit with a late goal, but Norris won the ball back on halfway with acres of space for Chukwu-Nsofor to run and receive the ball, he played in Smith on the right and his low cross was perfect for the forward to net his second to seal the win late on.
